Welcome to my personal website! On this little place I present some of my personal activities, interests and ideas.

Computational systems biology

Computational systems biology is my current research field. I am now active as a postdoctoral researcher in the "Intelligent Systems Lab" at the department of Mathematics & Computer Science in the University of Antwerp, where I am the daily lead of a small interdisciplinary team that focusses on the development of intelligent algorithms to build mathematical models for complex biological systems, based on various types of data.

As a consequence of my own background (biologist, with a PhD in the field of Plant proteomics), we mainly focus on the protein level, for which we developed (and continue to develop) a number of useful tools. After my graduation in 1999 I worked in biology, chemistry and computer science departments, on projects ranging from wet lab biochemistry research to in silico modelling. Though seemingly unrelated, I have always persued one goal: understanding the fine complexity of biological systems through a wide array of multidisciplinary approaches.

Music

A long time ago I learned to play classical violin.Getting older, my interests shifted to fiddle playing in various types of folk and other roots music. Nowadays, I am an avid homerecorder, experimenting with the production of eclectic mixes of traditional accoustic instrument sounds with electronic stuff. No idea where this is going...
